Dear Elvis Fans,
I have been a Rock & Roll fan my whole life. The Kinks. The Rolling Stones. Chuck Berry. Guitar driven & Blues based rock were my favorite. Growing up, I liked Elvis. I didn't know much about him, but I thought he was cool. I wasn't very familiar with his music, but I liked what I had heard. I have to admit, though, that I thought his movies were pretty bad. Four years ago I didn't own an Elvis album. I was content to hear him now and then on the radio.

It was around Christmas in 2001 and I was lucky enough to be invited on a group trip to Graceland. It changed my life!
Something about his house changed me. I feel in love with Elvis that day. His spirit was there. I could feel the raw talent, the rebellion, the creativity, the loneliness, and the generosity. I've been a huge fan ever since. Two of the seven bars that I operate are total tributes to the Man. The other five all have something in them to honor Elvis. I wear an Elvis ring. I have a TCB tattoo. I even carry an Elvis wallet. I use an Elvis Zippo. It's all a bit strange, but it's all true.
Elvis changed everything. After the Sun Records session which produced “That's All Right, Mama”, music was different forever and the American society became modernized. Rock & Roll had its King. He was an International sensation. How many other people are known the World over by there first name? When Elvis passed away in 1977, the World lost one of the most important cultural figures of Twentieth Century popular culture. What was not lost, was his Spirit. His Spirit lives on. It lives in his music. It lives in his charitable contributions which are on going. It lives in his movies (no matter what you may think of them). It lives in all of us when we are touched by one of his songs. It lives at Graceland. It lives in all of his fans. And, it lives in Elvis Tribute Artists.
Impersonators are not Tribute Artists. Impersonators are a joke. Tribute Artists love Elvis. They pay tribute to the Spirit of a great human being and to his talent. They want to bring a small piece of Elvis back to life for a brief moment for the enjoyment of his fans. They want to introduce him and his music to a new generation which is unfamiliar.
My friend Sam Formica takes the art of this tribute to a whole new level. I've never known anyone who cared more about honoring Elvis's memory than Sam. His show is pure enjoyment. Everyone in the audience gets a glimmer of the magic which was Elvis. Everyone who leaves Sammy's show is an Elvis fan. No one leaves disappointed. Sammy J's recreation of an Elvis show is so good it is eerie.

We had a surprise party for our Mom's 65th birthday and Sammy J. was an extra-special surprise for our Mom and about 50 other guests. He worked the room so well, posed for pictures, mingled between sets, and truly entertained everyone.
